Get in Touch

This is a private reference resource, not a government office. It cannot confirm live custody, release anyone, post bond, or retrieve an official booking record. Those questions must go to the office or facility that created or holds the record.

Where to Ask for Records

Use the route that matches the record. Mitchell County has no separately identified records unit, and its public materials describe detention in McDowell County and other arranged facilities. Ask the Sheriff’s Office to identify the current custodian before sending a detailed request.

  • For federal custody, use the Bureau of Prisons locator. For immigration custody, use the ICE locator and its exact-identity rules.

What to Include in a Request

Name the person, approximate date, arresting agency, and case, citation, or booking number. Ask for the existing arrest or booking record and any associated photograph as separate items. Ask for the destination facility, release or transfer date, a fee estimate, and the reason for any redaction. North Carolina’s public-records law does not require one statewide form, but it also does not require an office to create a new record or answer an open-ended research question.
